Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Health Trend Observer collects, why, and the choices you have. The data controller is DEGRAND DIGITAL MARKETING.
Who this policy covers
This policy applies to healthtrendobserver.com. The data controller — the company responsible for deciding how and why your information is processed — is DEGRAND DIGITAL MARKETING, 223 Miracle Drive, Troy, MI 48084, United States. Contact details are at the bottom of this page.
Information we collect
| What | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address, signup timestamp, and IP address | When you subscribe to The Weekly Signal newsletter | Stored in a private file on our server, used only to send you the newsletter and to detect abusive signups |
| Standard server and CDN request logs (IP address, browser/user-agent string, requested URL, timestamp, referring page) | Every visit | Operating and securing the site, diagnosing problems, and detecting abuse |
| Microsoft Advertising UET identifiers and measurement events | Only after you click Accept on the cookie banner (or if you had previously granted consent) | Advertising measurement — see the consent details below and our full Cookie Policy |
A local browser record named hto_consent | As soon as you make a cookie choice (Accept or Decline) | Remembers your consent choice on this device so we don't ask again every visit |
What we do not collect
- We do not offer user accounts or logins, so we don't hold account credentials.
- We do not process payments and never see your payment details — all purchases happen on Amazon or a seller's own site.
- We do not ask for or knowingly collect health information about you.
- We do not access or store your real-time or historical personal search history from Google, Bing, or anywhere else. Our editorial "trend" calls are based on documented public events and patterns, not a feed of your personal activity.
Cookies, consent, and Microsoft Advertising measurement
On your first visit, a banner asks you to Accept or Decline non-essential cookies. Until you make a choice — and if you choose Decline — advertising consent defaults to denied. We also honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal: if your browser or a browser extension sends GPC, we treat that the same as clicking Decline, without requiring you to also click through the banner.
Regardless of your choice, a script tag from Microsoft Advertising loads on every page so that a consent signal can be passed to Microsoft; this means a network request to Microsoft's measurement domain happens on every page load. What differs by consent state is not whether that request happens, but what it's allowed to do:
- If you have not consented, or you decline: per Microsoft's own published Consent Mode documentation, first-party advertising cookies are neither read nor written, third-party advertising cookies are not written, and any third-party cookie that is read is used only for fraud and spam detection — not for advertising or measurement.
- If you click Accept: Microsoft Advertising may set and read identifiers such as
MUID,MR,MSPTC,_uetsidand_uetvid, plus a couple of related items, to measure whether visits to this site followed one of our ads and to build remarketing audiences. Full names, purposes and approximate durations are listed in our Cookie Policy.
We do not currently use any other advertising or analytics pixel beyond Microsoft Advertising's UET tag.
How we use your information
- Newsletter: your email address is used only to send The Weekly Signal and to manage your subscription (including unsubscribing you on request). We do not sell, rent, or share your email list with anyone outside the service providers needed to operate it.
- Site operation and security: server and CDN logs help us keep the site running, find and fix errors, and identify abusive or automated traffic.
- Advertising measurement: only after consent, to understand whether our advertising is reaching people and to avoid showing the same ad excessively.
We do not sell personal information, as that term is defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA) or similar state laws, and we do not use your information to build a profile beyond what's described on this page.
Who we share information with
We don't sell your information. We do rely on a small number of service providers to run this site:
- Cloudflare, which proxies and helps secure the site (including basic bot-mitigation cookies described in our Cookie Policy) and therefore processes standard connection and request data as our service provider.
- Microsoft Advertising, only once you've consented, for the measurement described above.
- Our web hosting provider, which stores the server files (including the private newsletter-signup file) that make the site run.
We may also disclose information if required to by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Health Trend Observer, our users, or the public.
When you click through to Amazon or a seller
Many entries link out to Amazon or to a seller's own storefront through affiliate links (see our Affiliate Disclosure). Once you leave healthtrendobserver.com, that site's own privacy policy and data practices apply — we don't control what Amazon or a given seller collects, and this policy doesn't cover them.
Data retention
We keep newsletter signup records (email, timestamp, IP address) for as long as you remain subscribed, and delete or anonymize them after you unsubscribe or on request. We don't operate a long-term log warehouse of our own; connection and security logs are retained by our CDN provider for its standard operational window before aging out. If you accepted advertising cookies, those identifiers persist on your device for the durations listed in our Cookie Policy, or until you clear them or update your consent choice.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures — including running the site behind Cloudflare and keeping the newsletter-signup file private and off any public directory — to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can't promise that information will never be exposed through circumstances outside our control.
Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone we know to be under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information (for example, through the newsletter form), contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices and rights
Cookie choice. Use the "Update cookie choice" button in our Cookie Policy footer at any time to change your Accept/Decline choice, or send a Global Privacy Control signal from a supporting browser or extension.
Newsletter. Every issue includes an unsubscribe option, or you can email us to be removed and to request deletion of your signup record.
US state privacy laws. Depending on where you live, laws such as California's CCPA/CPRA and comparable statutes in other US states may give you the right to know what personal information we hold about you, request a copy of it, request deletion, request correction, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do not sell or share personal information as those laws define it, so there is nothing to opt out of on that front). To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address below; we may need to verify your identity using the email address you contacted us from or subscribed with.
Visitors in the EEA or UK. If data-protection law such as the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, you generally have the right to access, correct, or erase your data, restrict or object to certain processing, and request that we transfer your data to you in a portable format. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection supervisory authority. Contact us first so we can try to resolve the issue directly.

Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our practices, tools, or the law change. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page; for material changes, we'll consider that update itself an announcement rather than sending a separate notice, so check back occasionally.
