A February 2024 CDC data brief put diagnosed joint disease at 3.6% of U.S. adults aged 18–34 versus 53.9% of those 75 and older[8], and as the population keeps aging, that base of people searching for joint-comfort options stays wide and consistent rather than trending up or down. Osteo Bi-Flex has also marketed a glucosamine formula continuously since the brand's Rexall Sundown days in the 1990s, which is itself a pattern of steady, unspectacular interest rather than a new fad.
The short version
- Osteo Bi-Flex Triple Strength is a coated-tablet glucosamine and chondroitin supplement now made by Nestlé Health Science — not by Kenvue/Johnson & Johnson, a mix-up we found repeated elsewhere and want to correct here.

We read the Supplement Facts panel as photographed and distributed by Nestlé Health Science's own product-imagery feed (matching the panel shown for the 120-count package) and cross-checked the per-serving amounts against an authorized online retailer's listing of the same product on September 27, 2026[2][3]. The serving size is 2 coated tablets; a 120-count bottle supplies 60 servings.

The label also discloses that the chondroitin/MSM complex "contains shellfish (crab, crayfish, lobster, shrimp) ingredients" and states the tablets are gluten-free and non-GMO — those last two are the manufacturer's own on-pack claims; we did not find Osteo Bi-Flex listed in USP's or NSF's own certified/verified product directories, so treat "gluten-free" and "non-GMO" here as label statements rather than third-party-audited seals.
What the evidence shows
Glucosamine and chondroitin are among the most studied joint supplement ingredients, and the results are genuinely split. The biggest independent test was the NIH-funded Glucosamine/chondroitin Arthritis Intervention Trial, which followed more than 1,500 people with knee joint pain for 24 weeks. Across the whole study group, neither ingredient — alone or combined — reduced pain significantly more than a placebo did; only the prescription comparator drug cleared that bar. A smaller subgroup of participants with more severe pain did show a larger response to the combination, but the trial's own investigators flagged that finding as preliminary because the subgroup was small[5]. A follow-up phase of the same trial, using knee X-rays over two years, found no difference in joint-space change between any of the supplement groups and placebo — meaning it did not show a structural change either[4].
A 2024 Cochrane review took a broader view, pooling many chondroitin trials (with or without glucosamine). It found a small-to-moderate pain improvement over placebo in studies under six months, but rated the evidence "low" quality because most of the underlying trials had design weaknesses, and it noted that some of the higher-quality, non-industry-funded studies found no benefit at all. Chondroitin did have a favorable safety record in that review, with lower odds of serious side effects than placebo[6]. The U.S. National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health summarizes the field similarly: still inconclusive overall, with one professional orthopaedic group willing to say the combination may help mild-to-moderate cases and another major rheumatology group advising against it[4].
The Boswellia serrata extract (branded Joint Shield 5-LOXIN Advanced) has less independent research behind it. The evidence we could find traces back to a small manufacturer-associated trial and a newer six-month, placebo-controlled study at a hospital in India, sponsored by Nestlé Health Science itself, which reported improved joint comfort and mobility measures and some MRI cartilage findings starting around 30 days[7]. Because the company that sells the ingredient also funded that research, we'd treat its results as a promising but not independently confirmed data point rather than settled science.
Glucosamine and chondroitin — together or alone — have been linked to an increased bleeding risk in people taking the blood thinner warfarin, and glucosamine may raise blood glucose in some people, according to the NIH's own consumer summary[4]. Anyone on blood thinners or diabetes medication should check with a pharmacist or clinician before starting this or any similar joint supplement.

On Amazon, the 120-count Triple Strength bottle carries ASIN B00006FE3S — we confirmed that ASIN maps to this exact product (name, count and formula) by checking it on two separately-rendered Amazon listing pages[1].
